MedMission: Sitio Makayas

On September 5, 2023, our team reached the farthest Purok of Barangay Mandih Municipality of Sindangan where we had our "BarrioMed Mission: Sitio Makayas". It was a bit of a challenge getting there due to the ongoing construction of the road project, not to mention the bumpy and muddy trail brought upon by the heavy rain. However, we are so glad how the event turned out. Together with Dr. Rex Samson, Dra. Sittie Samaidah Rackman, RHU Sindangan, the NDPs’ of Sindangan namely Amriel Juntilla Rodrigo, Levijerah Dinglasa, and Danilo Maningco, the Brgy. Captain of Mandih- Coy Dagz, the Kagawads of Brgy. Mandih, Tanods of sector Makayas, and the BHWs’ of Mandih, the medical mission was able to cater to a total of 85 patients. Also, we were also able to distribute 100 seedlings to the locals of Makayas and able to execute health teachings specifically on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.

As we go forward, we realize how difficult it is to get to remote places, but we can say that somehow we were able to touch the lives of the resilient community, and their appreciation was overwhelming, just as their smiles were rewarding. Even though this might only last a short while, however, we cannot deny the impact it had on the community's lives. Tatak Ateneo De Zamboanga- School Of Medicine!
